Chinese group $1.24 billion takeover of Opera fails, but alternative deal set

The plan of Chinese internet firms to take over Opera Software, a Norwegian online browser and advertising company, did not push through due to lack of regulatory approval, Opera said on Monday.

The consortium and Opera had previously agreed to a $1.24 billion deal.

As an alternative, the group has agreed to take over certain parts of Opera’s consumer business, including its browser and app operations, for $600 million, Opera said.
