SGX CEO Apologizes for Thursday Shutdown

Singapore Exchange CEO Loh Boon Chye apologized for a technical disruption that enraged traders, pledging to improve and stating that the company will be responsible for Thursday’s five-hour shutdown.

Loh expressed his remorse on a media call on Friday that did not give clear details and reason behind the malfunction that halted trading prematurely on Thursday. SGX resumed operations at the usual 9 a.m. start on Friday, after stopping trading at 11:38 am on Thursday, failing to deliver two promises to reopen at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. during the afternoon.

He did not offer detailed replies on what the caused the disruption, stating only that it was due to hardware and was not a capacity issue.
