Bank of England Governor Mark Carney is said to join a convention of the General Council, the forum for the central banks of the European Union, which will be hosted by the European Central Bank.
According to people privy to the matter, policymakers in the region might question Carney about the implications of the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the bloc.
ECB President Mario Draghi previously said Britain would suffer most in a disorganized EU exit. On the other hand, Carney earlier cautioned the nation is Europe’s investment banker and it is the bloc’s responsibility to ensure it can still use the service post-Brexit.
A BOE spokesperson said Carney regularly joins the General Council in its quarterly gathering. An ECB spokesperson, however, refused to disclose the upcoming meeting’s agenda.
